WHITE FROZEN WATER

Ystad, South of Sweden

BALTIC SEA IS COVERED IN ICE

This part of the Baltic Sea is normally never frozen.
It looks very surreal.
Icebreakers are working round the clock
to ensure that the routes remain open.

  1. Amazing... it's just so beautiful! I would love to just sit and stare out a window at that view (from somewhere inside where it's warm, of course)! ;)

  6. An incredible image, Randi, that (in part) resembles a frozen waterfall. This photo has truly humbled my perspective about a comparatively minor snowfall in my part of the world. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I remember tales of the Baltic freezing over and people walking ove the frozen sea from the Baltic States to Sweden seeking refuge from the Russian advance in WWII.
An historic shot since this is quite a rare occurrence.

  8. Gosh that's normal for here Randi, but the Vermilon stays open. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  12. Amazing ice, so thick and so beautiful. But i haven't seen any of it yet in person, we only have 2 seasons and most of my travels to temperate countries, normally coincide with spring. I wonder why!

  24. I cannot even imagine those vistas! It must be very chilly work, those icebreakers. One would need a lot of hot coffee or tea to stay warm!
